Test Shoot

*Not Fully Finished*

This is our test shoot for our Thriller opening, we decided to have freeze frames during our sequence so we can add our motion tracking text. some frames like the walking one will have motion tracking on whilst its moving but the gap in-between our actors walking was too short so freezing it for 2 seconds, allowed us more time to add text. Although the text is not on this video just yet, we will get it on soon.

On the day of filming, we had a Dilemma because one of our backup actors never turned up. Our main actors we are using were busy on the day of filming so we used our back up actors. When one never turned up, we decided to problem solve and only film the scenes which involve the actor that turned up. When we got to the difficult scenes like the chase scene, we decided to call it off as it was too difficult to film.

Plot

Our Thriller opening will start off with Actor 1 going through a train station and ten they would get on the train to London Bridge, where he will get off of the train with a suspicious bag. On their journey, they will send GPS signals (their location) to actor 2, like they are giving clues to where the bomb is. Actor 2 will leave their local station, heading for London Bridge in order to track down actor 1, who is still sending them location signals to where they are.
When arriving at London Bridge Station, Actor 1 will leave their bag, which has a bomb in it, abandoned near the shard and only us viewers will know where the bomb is. Actor 2 will arrive at London and hunt down the bomb through the locations that Actor 1 is sending, they will then disarm to the bomb and try to find Actor 1. Actor 2 then spots Actor 1 through a window and the Chase commences throughout the surrounding area.
As Actor 2 gets to Actor 1, it will then go off in a cliffhanger, as that is what we feel would be best. Another idea that we had was to film a couple of endings, then decide what we think fits best for it.

Real Location Recce - London

The Station:

This is the scene where our character will get off the train at this station (London Bridge) and walk towards the shard, at this point our actor will check their phone for location signals to where the bomb is.

The Chase Scene:

We will use this walk way as the scene where our characters will be chasing each other after having the chase scene around the area surrounding the Shard, at this point it will be where Actor 2 has caught up with Actor 1 and then it will be left on a cliffhanger.

The Shard:

This is where the bag will be placed and where it will be found and disarmed, before the chase scene starts between our two actors, then they will be chased down the escalators to where the next part of the recce is.

We will use the area around the shard to film some of our chase scenes and some scenes of our characters acting suspicious. We was hoping to film inside the shard but unfortunately they never replied to my email so we have had to abandon that idea.

Fakebook of a thriller character

Back up location recce

This is suitable for a thriller as it classed as an adult world, because it is a train station and people go through here to go to work. I would class it as a thriller location due to the constant movement and a train station never sleeps, along with a thriller, there is no still moment this helps to create suspense.

This is not our first choice as it is a local area, not in London or another city or built up area. Also this was not chosen as it is not a busy location and less people go through Dartford station than through London.

Costumes Designs

Our actors will be dressed in a formal costume to blend in with their character they are portraying
Their costume includes:
Black formal blazer

Black formal trousers
Black formal shoes

Our actors will be dressed in this costume because it is a typical outfit people in london wear. We chose this because having a costume that blends into the publics costumes will create more suspense as you wouldn't really expect it.

BBFC Research

The BBC are a company that doesn't gain a profit. Their job is to regulate the age placed on films as a guide to audiences.

The ratings that they choose depend on sexual scenes, violence, swearing and nudity

Rating U stands for "Universal", this means that it should be suitable for all ages four+. There is next to no violence, nudity or bad language

Rating PG stands for "Parental guidance", this suggests that the content of the film should be suitable for all ages however some of the younger audiences may need parental guidance when watching. It should also mean no nudity, bad language or violence is in this film.

Rating 12 means that there could be a little bit of violence, swearing and sexual activity. Only ages 12 or up have consent to watch the films un guided

Rating 15 means that only ages 15 and up can watch at the cinema. In a 15 rated film you can expect frequent violence, bad language, sexual nudity and drugs.

Rating 18 films suggest extreme bad language, frequent scenes of sex and nudity, the violence can also be very strong and offensive. These should not be watched by anyone under the age of 18.

Previous student films target audience and certificate

Sophie & Sophie's film, Red Caller, has both a man and a woman in it, this makes it look like the target audience would be adult males. It is set in London, with parts that are at the train station, which would be classed as an adult place, which is more proof that it is an adult target audience.

There is no violence in the opening sequence and no nudity or weapons. There is no explicit language, so this suggests that the film would be a 15, this is because there is no drugs or violence or scene of a sexual nature.

Charlie - The Street Analysis

MES, CAM, EDIT & SOUND

Mise en scene
Mostly about props, location and characters. In the first scene, We know that the woman is very feminine because she is a housewife, takes the kids to school and does the shopping etc. We know this by seeing her washing the dishes when she is arguing to her husband. Another scene shows the male being very masculine as we know he works on a building site which requires the use of very heavy machinery which can be shown as being Phallic and tells us that he is the alpha male. The last scene shows the man in a business uniform and a woman in a tight pink top. The pink tells us that she is a very feminine lady and with it being tight, it tells the audience she could be seen as a sex object as her tight fitted top shows off her assets.

Camera
When the couple were arguing the camera kept its distance, this showed that their relationship is a bit on edge and may be breaking. In the house when the woman tried to fix the pipes, they used a low angle to show how small she was because she couldn't do it. They used a close up shot to show the man and woman kissing, this can be portrayed to show that she is the one with the power as she is cheating on her husband.

Sound
during the man and woman kissing, there was some music playing but it wasn't the type of music you get in fairy tales when they finally kiss their true love. This music in the background was someone playing a guitar but during the guitar, it had a track that was getting faster and faster so we know something is going to happen.

Editing
The editing was really well on this clip, they edited the argument to make it look like we was watching the argument in the same room as the kids. To do this, they faded the door out and focused on the parents when they were arguing. The woman had the most screen time but this could have been to show us that she had the power. however we knew the man had the power because he used his phallic object (his job) to show us, the woman just took up all the screen time to tell us

Caitlin - The Street

  Mes en scene:
The characters in 'the street' are mostly where they belong as in the stereotypes. Such as the mother/ wife is in the kitchen where the usual woman would be. The father/husband is at the building site which is a stereotypical place for a man to work, as it is classed as a masculine job.
The man looks like the stereotypical builder as he is wearing a hard hat, he is the alpha male as a builder is known as a masculine job role. The woman looks like the stereotypical mother or housewife as she is in the kitchen tidying up the bowls.
The clothes of the man in the second part where he is on the building site, he is wearing a hard hat, this shows he is the masculine person in the scene, where as the woman is wearing normal clothing, like the pink top, this may show that she is the feminine person in the scene as she is also at home, which shows she is a housewife.
There isn't much light in the shot which shows it is quite negative, as dark is usually bad and light usually represents heaven and purity. This shot is not well lit, showing there is something bad happening within the scene.
Both the man and the woman's roles seems the normal stereotypical role within a relationship or family, as the man is showing his masculinity through his anger and aggressiveness with his shouting and the woman is more nagging and when the pipe bursts in the kitchen, she shows femininity as she screams and this is normal for normal women.
The man has more power over the woman as he is shouting and being more aggressive, whereas the woman is being more emotional and passive as she is eating her feelings away by stuffing her face with a cake.
The man has a prop of a hammer at the building site, which is usually masculine. The woman is sorting out the bowls in the kitchen, which is mainly a woman thing to tidy stuff within the kitchen.

Camera:
The characters are further apart, because there is tension as they are having an argument, but they are in a close relationship because you wouldn't have such an intense argument with someone that you didn't know.
The man is generally bigger in the shot, which may show he has more power, but they mostly in separate shots which may be because they are equal in power.
Both main characters are sometimes facing each other, but the woman occasionally puts her back towards the man as she wants to ignore him.
when the camera is on the children, it is pointed down towards them in a low angle as it shows they have no power, but for the man it is slightly tilted upwards towards him in a high angle showing he has power, but the woman is mainly at eye line.
There is a close up on the man when he is using the hammer, she could show that he is using his anger on the hammer.
The movement within the scene is mostly fast and shows that there is a lot of anger in it.
The camera is quite smooth as i think it is showing the point of view of the children as they watch the argument.

Editing:
The editing is sort of like an equal conversation, but the woman has more camera time trying to make us feel sympathetic for her.
The differences between the children and the mum and dad arguing as the shots are next to each other, showing that they are mostly calm and do not care, but mum and dad do care as they argue over it.
The editing is cuts to make it faster to go from the woman to the man as at point they overlap each others sentences.
The woman has more time on screen to make the viewer feel sorry for her as the man is constantly shouting at her throughout the scene.
The edits are quick and decisive as it shows there is more tension between the two, more of an intense argument. i think that the man with his anger has motivated the cut because it represents his aggressiveness.

Sound:
The sounds that are associated with the man are more angry shouting and hitting things, because he is more aggressive, more active. whereas the woman is associated with more nagging and whining about things like the stereotype, more passive.
The man represents anger, but the woman represents more sadness as she is sort of eating her feelings away. The sound is created with whats within the shot as the shouting is within the shot in their argument and the sound of the hammer is within the shot too to represent his anger.
The rhythm of the edits is precise with the hammer sound as almost every time he bangs the hammer, the shot is cut to a different angle, a match on action.
This shows that the man is angry with the woman still and that he still needs to express his aggression through something.
The sounds make it seem like the man is in a wide pen space when he is using the hammer as it is echoing, also you hear a train go past which means it is near a train track. When the woman goes to comfort her children, she says it is time for school, which means it is early in the morning.
