Evaluation 2
Question 2: Screen capture
Charlie: Blue

These 2 characters are both similar as they are both taking male dominated roles (Alpha Female). Gina is holding a Gun which is hiding her face, along with Aoife who has a close up on her face which hides the rest of their body to keep their identity in tact. Both of these characters are actually from working class families although it could be deemed that both are from the under class as the under class are stereotypically involved in violence, Including male and female. They are both very secretive and both could be deemed as terrorist as ones holding a gun and the other is planting a bomb.
During the opening, Aoife was wearing dark clothes which is the same as Gina, this then adds a mystery to it as dark clothes could be deemed as danger. Aoife facial wise looks younger than Gina but then we can look at Aofie as a stereotypical Teen, getting up to no good. Although she wasn't set out to be this could be a positive thing. The angles in both screenshots do not really show if there is much power or not, this is because there isn't another person in the part of the film, so there is no weaker person or more powerful person. The edit is masculine as it is not gentle or slow, it is sort of fast paced, this is because they are alpha females, so they are portrayed as more masculine. alos the target audience is male, which is why the edit would be more fast paced.

The skills we have learned from the preliminary task to the final film are the way we use the camera, such as we used a lot of close ups to create mystery around the characters which hides their identity. We learnt how to use the angles to create power within the shots and to show who has more power and who is weaker. Using a high angle means they are weak as the camera is looking down on the person, whereas low angle means the person in shot has more power, because the camera is looking up to the actor.
The editing skills we learned are how to use 180 degree rule, during conversations between people, the camera always has to be on the opposite side when changing. Match on action is a skill we learnt when one of our shots is too long and boring so we add in parts of the same action but from different angles to make it look less boring. Another skill we learnt was how to do shot reverse shot, this would be used when two actors are having a conversation and the camera would switch between them when each of the are talking during the conversation. The pace of the editing can also effect the feel of what is being filmed, as if the pace is sped up and there are lots of short shots in a short amount of time, this could give it a tense feel to it. Where as if the editing pace is slowed down, it would give it a gentle and relaxed feel to it.
We learnt how to edit sound and what types of sound effects come under which types of sound. Such as ambient sounds which is just usual background sound, and foley which is edited in sound. The soundtrack that is chosen to go with the mood of the video is important as it could help build the mood and atmosphere of the overall footage.
The lighting is also an important thing that we learnt, as it can also effect the mood and atmosphere of the footage. Such as if the footage needs to have a mysterious atmosphere,the lighting needs to be low key and dimly lit, whereas it there is a gentle atmosphere it needs to be relatively light and glowy, but no too bright. The colour grading goes sort of hand in hand with the lighting as, if the mood is mysterious the colour grading has to have dull sort of colour like a hint of blue t make the mood darker. If the mood is gentle and light, the colour grading needs to be a lighter colour like yellow or orange to make the atmosphere happier.

Camera:
We used this type of camera to film our thriller. We learned skills such as zooming in and out for close ups and focusing on certain things within shot. Using the tripod, we learnt how to produce high and low angles, also we learnt how to level out the camera so the shots were not wonky and were up to standard. Our paranoia edit is an example of how we learnt to use the camera.
When making Paranoia, we was set a task to set up the shot by using different angles and shot types. This allowed us to get used to using the camera to create different atmospheres. for example, we got told to use a close up, this allowed us to experiment with the camera on how to make a close up. Experimenting with the camera earlier allowed us to view back and pick flaws in our work for our final piece.
Garageband:
We used Garageband to level out the volumes of the soundtrack and the sound effects. Also we learnt how to adjust the length of the sound effects and how to move them to sync up with the film itself. From Garageband we could use some of the sound effects for the foley in our film, but we could also go onto youtube and download certain foley sounds that we liked to our film and put them into Garageband to add to the layers we already had.
Falling down is an example of how we learnt to use Garageband.
We created falling down by being given a blank video and we had to use sound effects given to re create it. When fiddling about with garage band, we stumbled across the built in sound effects which we then used to get us extra marks. Although, we never used these built in sound effects in the final piece as we couldn't find one that matched
Final Cut Pro:
In final cut we edited all of the footage from our film together in order, we shortened parts of the clips so that the length of them was just right. We also added titles over the top when everything was edited, like in this screenshot of our film, The titles are integrated into the background and move when our actor walks in front of it.
We also learnt how to colour grade the footage to make it look
more like a thriller, this would give it more of a real film feel.
The colour effects the look of the film as it makes it look
less amateur like. In this screenshot of our film, you can see the colour is slightly blue, to give it more of a dark feel to it, making it look more like a film.
Youtube:
We used youtube as a platform to upload our thriller opening onto, as it is easier to upload onto youtube and then embed on our blogger account, rather than to upload straight to blogger, as it takes a longer amount of time. Another way we used Youtube was to get different sounds we liked that went well with the footage and download them and put them into our sound in Garageband.
Blogger:
We used blogger as another platform to showcase the process of making our work. We learnt how to embed youtube videos and how to add pictures. We also uploaded all of our planning onto our blog so we could go back to it for reference whilst we were making our thriller.

This would be another stereotypical person that would watch our thriller. This man in his 30s looks like he works in London and watches thriller films in his spare time. He would watch a mixture of idenpendant films and blockbusters, because he likes action pieces as well as being made to think. Looking at him he looks like he shops in places like Burtons and Matalan. I think that he wouldn't listen to modern music but would maybe listen to gentle music up to rock. Bceuase he works in London this film will relate to him in a way as it is set in London, because of this it could add to the realism aspect of the film, that it could possibly happen.
